How to Access the eMachines Recovery Partition
· 2 min read
eMachines and Gateway computers come with a hidden recovery partition on the hard drive that contains a factory image of the operating system. This allows you to restore the computer to its original state without needing a separate recovery disc.
How to access the recovery partition
- Turn the computer on (or restart it).
- Immediately press Alt + F10 at the same time, before the Windows logo appears.
- The recovery process will start and guide you through the restoration.
Warning: The recovery process will erase all user data, including documents, pictures, music, and installed applications. The computer will be restored to the same state it was in when you first turned it on.
Before you begin
Make sure to back up any important files before starting the recovery. You can copy files to:
- An external USB drive or flash drive.
- A cloud storage service such as OneDrive or Google Drive.
- Another computer on your local network.
If Alt + F10 does not work
- Check BIOS settings: Enter the BIOS (usually by pressing F2 or Del at startup) and verify that the recovery partition feature, sometimes listed under a D2D Recovery option, is enabled.
- Recovery partition may be damaged or removed: If the partition was deleted or corrupted (for example, during a disk repartition), you will need to use a recovery disc instead. Contact Gateway/eMachines support or check if recovery media can be ordered.
