How to Make iOS 7 Easier to Read

· 2 min read

iOS 7 introduced a completely redesigned interface with thinner fonts and a more minimalist aesthetic. While it looks clean, the lighter typography can make text harder to read for some users, especially on smaller screens or in bright sunlight.

Apple includes several Accessibility settings that can significantly improve readability. Here is how to adjust them.

Enable bold text

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select General.
  3. Select Accessibility.
  4. Toggle Bold Text to on.
  5. Your device will restart to apply the change.

Bold text thickens the font weight throughout the entire operating system, including menus, buttons, and app labels.

Increase text size

  1. In Settings > General > Accessibility, select Larger Text.
  2. Toggle Larger Accessibility Sizes to on.
  3. Drag the slider to adjust the text size to your preference.

Apps that support Dynamic Type will automatically adjust their text size to match your selection.

Increase contrast

  1. In Settings > General > Accessibility, select Increase Contrast.
  2. Enable Reduce Transparency to make backgrounds more opaque and text easier to read against varied backgrounds.
  3. Enable Darken Colors to make UI elements stand out more.

These settings work together — combining bold text, a larger font size, and increased contrast gives the most noticeable improvement in readability.
