How to enable numlock on startup in Windows 8

If you are like me – you rely heavily on the Num Lock key and having it disabled on boot is extremely annoying – using a quick registry change you can enable Numlock by default in Windows 8.

HOW TO enable NUMLOCK ON STARTUP

  1. Press the Windows Key to open the Tile (Metro) screen
  2. Type: regedit to search for the Windows Registry Editor and press Enter.
  3. When the Registry Editor loads – navigate through:
  4. HKEY_USERS,.DEFAULT, Control Panel, and Keyboard.
  5. Locate the InitialKeyboardIndicators entry and right-click it, select Modify.
  6. Enter 2 into the box.
  7. Click OK to save the changes.

 

How to disable Numlock on Startup

Follow the same steps till: Step 6 than instead of 2 type: 2147483648.

Adjusting java security settings

Adjusting Java Security settings can be used to fix a variety of problems – especially around certification validation and problems with java security updates. However although not recommended for security reasons it can be used as a “quick fix” or “work around” until a permanent solution can be found and also just takes a few clicks of the mouse to change.

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Control Panel
  3. Click on the View by: option – top right and select Small icons
  4. Click Java (32-Bit)
  5. Up the top – click Security
  6. Change the Security Level slider to Medium
  7. Click Apply (down the bottom)

Windows Vista – Not loading Control Panel

Having problems when you try opening the Vista Control panel and all you see is the outline of the window?

Follow the instructions below to repair it.

 

1. Left Click the Vista “Orb”

2. Left Click All Programs

3. Left Click Accessories

5. Left Click Notepad

6. Copy & paste the following into Notepad (To copy, select the text below and click Copy. To paste, right click on where you would like to paste it and select Paste)

 

net stop readyboost

net stop slsvc

net start slsvc

net start readyboost

7. Click File

8. click Save

9. Save the file as “ControlPanelFix.bat” and close Notepad

10. Run the ControlPanelFix.bat file.

 

Note: You can also try accessing parts of Control Panel by going to Computer, and in the left hand pane, select Control Panel

The settings saved on this computer do not match the requirements of the network

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Control Panel
  3. Open Network and Sharing Center
  4. Click Manage Wireless Networks (to the left)
  5. Right click and remove your wireless network from the list
  6. Attempt re-connection.

Windows Update – Error 66a or 0x8007066A

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Control Panel
  3. Click Uninstall a Program/Add and Remove Programs
  4. Go down the list and find Net Framework 4 Client Profile
  5. Right click Net Framework 4 Client Profile and select Change/Repair.
  6. Select Repair

The Net Framework will then go through and repair its files and registry entries, once completed restart your windows machine and attempt Windows Update again.

Nvlddmkm.sys/dxgkrnl.sys/dxgmms1.sys Issues

These issues are usually caused by damage and/or faulty nVidia drivers and DirectX components within Windows. Follow the instructions below to repair:

 

  1. Firstly you need to download a tool called “Driver Sweeper
  2. Download and install Driver Sweeper
  3. Download the latest version of the nVidia driver (but do not install yet) make sure you have the correct one for your OS and architecture (ie 32Bit or 64Bit).
  4. Click Start
  5. Click Control Panel
  6. Click Add/Remove Programs (or Uninstall a program)
  7. Select nVidia and Uninstall.
  8. Once uninstalled, reboot your computer into Safe Mode (Press F8 at Windows start-up to get to the Safe Mode)
  9. Run run Driver Sweeper (which should be located Start, Programs, Driver Sweeper)
  10. You should have a list with checkboxes in front of you ignore the rest and check NVIDIA Display.
  11. Click Clean
  12. Restart your computer (in Normal Mode)
  13. Now install the nVidia drivers
  14. Restart and you should be good-to-go!

 

If the above does not work, then you need to update DirectX and/or run a RAM scan.

Navigation to the webpage has been cancelled

  1. Click Start
  2. Right click Internet Explorer
  3. Left click Properties
  4. Click on the Advanced Tab
  5. Left click Restore Defaults
  6. Close Internet Explorer
  7. Reopen Internet Explorer and attempt to load the webpage again.

If that didn’t work make sure that you don’t have InternetServiceOffers as a scheduled task.

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Control Panel
  3. Click Administrative Tools
  4. Click Task Manager
  5. Look for: InternetServiceOffers/Registration
  6. If you can find them then delete them.

ntdll.dll Windows Explorer

Having problems with Windows Explorer with the “ntdll.dll” error? This usually occurs when you are running an AMD system.

 

  1. Right click My Computer
  2. Click Properties
  3. Click on Advanced
  4. Click Environment Variables
  5. Look for “NLSPATH” and delete/rename it
  6. Press Ok

Another issue is with Data Execution Prevention, follow the prompts below:

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Control Panel
  3. Click System
  4. Click the Advanced Tab
  5. Click Settings
  6. Click on Data Execution Prevention
  7. Click on “Turn on DEP for all Programs and Services Except Those I Select
  8. Click Add
  9. Browse to c:Windowsexplorer.exe
  10. Click Add
  11. Click Ok
  12. Restart your machine.

Getting “ Instead of @ When Typing

This happens when the keyboard region has changed to UK instead of the usual standard US layout.

  1. Click Start (windows orb)
  2. Click Control Panel
  3. Click Regional and Language
  4. Click Options
  5. Click Languages
  6. Click Details
  7. Click Settings
  8. In the drop down list select US Keyboard International
  9. Click Ok

Restart the application you were having problems typing in and you should now be able to use @
