Easily migrate Sickbeard install to another installation

Have a new Sickbeard installation and want to migrate or move your Library and settings across?

Due to the nature of the Sickbeard application – migrating Sickbeard data from one install to another is very easy.

 

  1. On the Sickbeard install you want to use as your source – open the folder where Sickbeard is installed and copy the following files to the same location on your destination Sickbeard install and overwrite the ones that are there.

 

  • sickbeard.db
  • config.ini
  • autoProcessTV/autoProcessTV.cfg (if you use it)

Update caching on OSX Server

Update caching on OSX server can be easily managed through the Server application.

It is recommended to turn on updating caching to allow osx clients to be able to draw Apple updates from the server without having to branch out onto the internet – decreasing broadband data usage and network traffic.

 

  1. Navigate to: Applications
  2. Open Server
  3. Select Caching
  4. Click On/Off to turn on the Software Update caching service

Having access to an exchange mailbox on a Mac or iMac is very useful – especially if you are a designer in a prominent Windows domain environment – setup exchange email account on mac is incredibly easy on the client site – as long as the relevant ports have been opened up allowing you to connect from outside a Windows domain.

 

  1. Open the Apple menu
  2. Click System Preferences
  3. Click Internet Accounts.
  4. Click the Add (+) button.
  5. Click Exchange in the list of services.
  6. Enter the information.
  7. Click Continue.
  8. Enter a description for the account (for example, Work or Exchange).
  9. In the Server Address field, enter the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) for the companies exchange server.
  10. Click Continue.
  11. Make sure the Contacts and Calendar checkboxes are selected to automatically set up those apps.
  12. Click Done.

 

Note: To access an Exchange server from a Mac outside the organization’s network, confirm with the server administrator that port 443 is open on the firewall and Exchange Web Services (EWS) is enabled on the server.

Share files on a Mac with Windows can be extremely useful and luckily for us extremely easy to setup and manage.

  1. Choose Apple menu
  2. Select System Preferences, then click Sharing.
  3. Select File Sharing, then click Options.
  4. Select “Share files and folders using SMB (Windows)
  5. Selectuser group or users you would like to share with and click Ok
  6. Click Done.

Connecting OSX 10.9 to Active Directory domain is very easy. Follow the quick guide below:

  1. Click on the Apple Menu
  2. Click System Preferences
  3. Select Users & Groups
  4. Click Login Options
  5. Click Join
  6. Click Add and type in the name of the Active Directory domain
  7. Enter in an Active Directory user credentials with domain rights to add workstations to the domain

How to delete Autocomplete entries in Chrome

Deleting the Auto Complete entries in Google Chrome is very useful – especially if you are like me and wasn’t paying attention and misspelt a username that would have forever been popping up in the login field.

  1. Open Chrome
  2. Navigate to the login webpage of the autocomplete details you would like to remove.
  3. Start typing to bring up the name you want to remove
  4. Using the Arrow keys navigate to select the entry you would like to remove
  5. Press SHIFT+DELETE (if you are using OSX – you can press FN+SHIFT+DEL) keys at the same time to permanently remove these details from Google Chromes cache.

You have now stopped that autocomplete entry from forever reminding you of that misspell!

How to Boot from CD/DVD on an iMac

Restore your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch Firmware

Warning: Following this method will erase all your data – including Contacts & Photos

 

  1. First you need to download your iPhone/iPod Touch firmware. Click “here” to download the firmware.
  2. Once the download has been completed – Open iTunes
  3. Click on your iPhone/iPod Touch (if using older version of itunes – on the left if not it is top right)
  4. Hold down SHIFT and left click the Restore button.
  5. A Browse for dialog will open – locate and select the downloaded iPhone/iPod firmware.
  6. Click Open
  7. iTunes will now verify the consistency and authenticity of the firmware file to verify it is a valid Apple firmware. Then start the restore process.
  8. Once completed your iPhone/iPod Touch should restart and you should now have a freshly reset iPhone/iPod Touch.
