How to create a shutdown shortcut

This tip is useful if you don’t want to go through the hassle of clicking Start, Shutdown.


  1. Right click a blank spot on the desktop, select New, Shortcut
  2. In the location field type: shutdown –s –t 00
  3. Click Next
  4. Type in the name you want it named as, such as Shutdown
  5. Click Finish
  6. You can now drag the shortcut to the Taskbar or keep it on the desktop.


Note: the “-S” indicates shutdown, changing it to “-R” will mean restart. The “-t” is time adjusting the number from 00 will change the shutdown count from immediate to what you set it to in seconds.

Tested on Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7 (inc 64bit) | Should also work with Windows 9 (untested)

The network password needs to be 128 bits or 256 bits depending on your network configuration

Attempting to enter in your wireless passkey and getting “The network password needs to be 128bits or 256bits depending on your network configuration “error? This usually occurs when the networking stack has been damaged/corrupted. Follow the instructions below to repair:

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Run
  3. Type in: cmd
  4. Press Enter
  5. The windows Command Prompt should launch, type in: netsh winsock reset
  6. Press Enter
  7. Restart your computer and attempt wireless connectivity.

Data Is Invalid fix for Windows XP

Having issues trying to install device drivers in Windows XP and its stopping half way through and giving you the “Data is Invalid” error? Following the guide below to repair.


What you need

  • Windows XP Home/Professional CD
  1. Open My Computer
  2. Navigate to: C:WINDOWSDRIVERCACHEi386
  3. Delete the file.
  4. Now copy the file from the i386 folder from your Windows XP CD into the C:WINDOWSDRIVERCACHEi386 folder.
  5. Right click My Computer
  6. Left click Properties
  7. Click Hardware
  8. Click Device Manager
  9. Right click the device you were attempting to install (should have a yellow exclamation mark next to it) select Uninstall then restart your computer.

You should now be able to re-install the device drivers.

How to remove a Toshiba Tecra M3 Keyboard

What you need

  • Philips Screwdriver
  • Small Razor Blade/Flat-Head Screwdriver
  1. Remove the Laptop Battery (to prevent laptop from getting bumped and turning on).
  2. On the casing of the laptop (just above the keyboard –where the power button is located)locate a little notch on either side and lift. Gently remove the plastic casing.
  3. You should now be able to see 2 screws (on either side of the top laptop) and unscrew them.
  4. Put your fingers on either side of the top part of the keyboard and gently lift upwards
  5. Lift the keyboard out and unplug it.

How to delete your Instragram Account


  1. Go to:
  2. Login with your Instragram details
  3. Scroll down to the bottom and select “I’d like to delete my account.”
  4. Select a reason in the dropdown box
  5. Enter in your password to verify you are deleting your own account or you have the rights to delete it.
  6. Click permanently deactivate my account
  7. Click yes to confirm
  8. You have now deleted your Instagram account

Google Chrome – Your Profile Could Not Be Opened Correctly

Every time you open Google Chrome you’re getting the “Your profile could not be opened correctly” error? This is how I fixed it.

  1. Open My Computer/Computer
  2. Go into your operating system drive (usually Local Disk C:)
  3. Go to Users/Documents & Settings
  4. Go into your user account (for example: C:Usersluke)
  5. Navigate to: AppDataLocalGoogleChromeUser DataDefault
  6. Delete WebData

If you are running Windows XP navigate to: Application DataLocalGoogleChromeUserDataDefault.

Note: Default is the name of the Google profile; it may be different depending on your setup.

How to open a Brother DP-550CJ Printer

What you will need

  • Small Flat-Head Screwdriver
  • Philips Screwdriver
  1. Undo the clips at the front, one on each side and lift the plastic panel up slightly.
  2. Take the top plastic cover off, revealing the Ink Cartridge area using a Flat-Head Screwdriver gently lift the clips on either side up and gently lift the plastic casing up.
  3. Remove the two Copper Screws on the top of the back part of the printer.
  4. Once removed, gently lift the top chassis off.
  5. You should now have unfettered view of the keyboard, undo the latches on each side.
  6. Slide the keyboard towards you and gently lift it up out of place.

ASUS Recovery Partition

  1. Press F9 during POST (computer start) to enter into the ASUS Recovery Partition.

Note: Tested on an Acer x58 Laptop

Aspire One Keyboard Removal

Things you will need.

  • Small Razor Blade
  • Small Flat-Head Screwdriver
  1. Unplug the Aspire One battery (to avoid any chances of the laptop turning on while you are working on it).
  2. On the right hand side of the Keyboard you should see several notches, get your Razor Blade and gently pry the keyboard up over the notches.
  3. Once lifted push the little notch in the top middle of the keyboard in and slide the keyboard out.


Note: It is normal for the Laptop keyboard cable to be “bent” to fix in the slot.

Windows Update – Error 66a or 0x8007066A

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Control Panel
  3. Click Uninstall a Program/Add and Remove Programs
  4. Go down the list and find Net Framework 4 Client Profile
  5. Right click Net Framework 4 Client Profile and select Change/Repair.
  6. Select Repair

The Net Framework will then go through and repair its files and registry entries, once completed restart your windows machine and attempt Windows Update again.
